Libertarians: More Left or More Right?

If you are a Libertarian, more than likely someone on the left thinks you're on the Right and someone on the right thinks you're on the left.

We've all been through this, and the one question on every Libertarians mind is: "Why"?

I think the answer is pretty simple. For a couple of centuries, all we had to choose was between two parties. Democratic or Republican. So when you have a third party growing as fast as the Libertarian party has in the past decade, people still think that party can't be too different than one of the other two.

So which side do Libertarians lean more towards? The right or the Left?

Well, up to just recently, Libertarians used to blend themselves with the best of both worlds. Fiscally conservative and socially Liberal.

Like the right, we didn't want the government in our pockets and like the left we didn't want the government going to unnecessary wars and into our private lives.

But just within the past decade, all that seemed to change with the two major parties.

Now and days, I don't see a lot of difference between the two.

I'm sure one of my conservative or Liberal friends will read this thinking "WHAT? There is a HUGE difference!"

O RLY?

Allow me to show just a few examples:

Back when Bush was in office, I remember *almost everyone on the right supporting the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, while *almost everyone on the left got their protest on.

They put peace signs in their yards, went to protests, calling Bush the new Hitler.

Now look at times now. Obama is in office and it seems like we are picking a fight with EVERYONE.

We're still in Afghanistan, still bases in Iraq, and now we're trying to start illegal wars with Syria, The Ukraine, and We've bombed Yemen.

Where are the lefties protesting? I haven't seen many of them lately.  But I do see the right protesting, even though they had no problem when Bush got us into Illegal wars.

Another way the two are very similar is they both have this knee jerk reaction to anything they dislike and call for an immediate ban!

The left tries to take away my Second amendment right.

Both parties LOVE the first amendment....until you say something that pisses them off, then they practically want to sew your mouth shut with a blunt needle.

The right have no problem with the Government using our tax dollars to put people who do no harm to any other person, all they do is smoke a plant in their own home, and put them in prison for 20+ years.

The left is wants to use big government to make sodas more expensive, realize that it's the government subsidizing corn farmers to make HFCS dirt cheap! (To learn more on that tid bit, check out the video)

In fact, I want to focus on that one that's ALWAYS bugged me about the left. The party who prides themselves on being PRO CHOICE.....Except about things like Guns, smoking, what food you eat, where you buy your goods. etc.

This meme is a good example:
Now, before I get the comments from either side
"HEY! We're not ALL like that!"

I know you're not. I'm not talking about every individual in either parties, I'm just talking about the parties as a whole.

So, are Libertarians more Right or more left?

Well depends on the issue. Some issues Like Guns, and what you want to eat/ drink we agree with on the Right, things like Pot and Gay Marriage, we agree on the left.

Just a few years back the lists of what we agree with the left and right used to be a lot bigger, but it's dwindled down.

Unlike the two parties, Libertarians don't feel the need to run to the government about every little thing and don't feel the need tho ban something just because we don't like it.

So I can't really say we're like either or party.

We're our own.

That's why it's called a THIRD party.

An Open Letter to Being Liberal

Dear Being Liberal,

Hi! How are you?

A Christian Libertarian here!

Recently I like so many of other Libertarian people and pages have been banned from commenting on anything on your page.

From what I've seen, you do that A LOT!

Now I don't dog pages from banning people under certain circumstances.

If someone is being abusive, bullying, or insulting, I get that. But based on your fan base, that is not the case.

You see, when I go on you page; I see a lot of people calling other people idiots and using every curse word in the book. But they stay on your page because they are agreeing with you and not the people who oppose some of memes you use.

I know plenty of Conservatives and Libertarians who never called anyone stupid, they just explained politely on how your logic is flawed.

In fact because you've banned and disabled so many, people have had to come up with their own page to disprove or rebuttal your memes.

Please see the page Being Liberal Logic here: https://www.facebook.com/beingliberallogic

Or even people who take pride in the original Liberal Roots, as seen here by the page Being Classically Liberal:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Being-Classically-Liberal/592589870775439

The problem I have with you, is not even your flawed logic, oh and believe me, it's there. My problem is you go against what Progressive Liberalism has been preaching for the past few decades.

Open dialogue and exchange of ideas.

Someone comments with a different opinion then what you have and you squish them like bugs.

You preach open mindedness and tolerance, but when someone does bring up something that you disagree with, you silence them completely like a 4 year old shoving their fingers in their ears screaming "LA LA LA LA"!

And you wonder why Liberals have the reputation that they have? Because of people like you!

Libertarians are not anarchists and if you actually listened to us, you might figure that out!

You know the comment I made that you disabled me for?

I said to someone when they said the government gives us our freedom, I said there was a difference between freedoms and privileges....THAT'S. IT.

Now, if you excuse me, I think Armed Libertarians just posted a great meme about guns. Going to go share it now.

Tootles!

Gays and Marriage

While my husband and I were chilling out in our living room watching The World Cup, he came across something in his news feed.

Some talking about how homosexuality is a sin.

We both are pretty passionate about the subject.

You see, we have a very diverse group of friends. We have many friends in the LBGT community.

One of his closest friends is a proud bisexual pagan and one of my good friends is a gay Wiccan high priest.

The both of us are in agreement.

WHY, oh WHY THIS subject that so many Christians feel like THIS is is the hill to die on.

Living in the Bible belt south my entire life, I've heard the subject MANY times.

Homosexuality is a sin! That's why gays can't get married!"

I want to make something very clear. I am a devote, born again Christian. I believe that the Bible is the word of God. I'm not one of those Christians that say "Well, the Bible was written by man".

If that was the case, why would I devote my life to studying if I thought the message has been tampered?

So do I believe being gay is a sin?

Well......It's complicated.

I do believe that it was put in the Old Testament for a reason. But I also wonder why you do hear so much about it in the New Testament.

This is a subject I'm still searching the whole truth answer for.

Now, do I believe that all gays are going to hell?

Well...No. I don't.

I believe what john 3:16 say.

"Whosoever believes in him shall not parish, but have ever lasting life."

The word, WHOSOEVER is the key word there.

But the thing I really don't understand is why this is the subject that the modern church is putting so much time, energy, and in Washington, MONEY into.

We have Veterans waiting for health care.

Countless wars we have no business being in.

Digging ourselves into a sea of debt we'll never be able to pay back to China.
But for some reason, we got to stop these queers from getting married.

Really? THAT'S the thing we gotta focus on?

I'm so sick of the same reason too I hear.

"Well, we can't let gay people get married. Marriage is a sacred institution and homosexuality is an abomination."

Did you forget what else the Bible list as abominations? Homosexuality isn't the only one.

Proverbs 6:16-19
American Standard Version

"16 There are six things which Jehovah hateth; Yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood;
18 A heart that deviseth wicked purposes, Feet that are swift in running to mischief,
19 A false witness that uttereth lies, And he that soweth discord among brethren."

And six of those happen in our churches every day and we turn a BLIND EYE!

As for marriage being an institution:

I believe that. I was a virgin until the day I got married. The only way my husband and I will part is by death.

But that's not the case in our modern world.

In the US, 50% of marriages end up in divorce. Second marriages lasting statistics are even less.

The enemy of your marriage is not someone else' relationship. Its adultery and divorce.

"Well, marriage is between ONE man and ONE woman".

Again, read what I just stated. Also, if you have been married more than once, unless your ex-spouse was an abuser or a cheater, you have NO right to make that statement.

Looking at you, Newt Grengrich!

There has been one concern that I've heard from those opposing homosexual marriage that is a fair concern:

"If we allow gay marriage, then the couple would be able to sue the religious organization for not allowing them to use their minister or building for the wedding ceremony."

Okay, THAT is a legit concern.

Especially in our country. I swear, you can sue anyone for anything now and days.

But other countries have taken this into concern before.

I had a friend from Finland once and she told me that gay marriage was legal, HOWEVER a religious organization had every right to deny a couple if they felt that their union was a sin.

So if you make a law protecting the churches and other religious organizations, that won't be an issue at all. And I think we should make sure that every religious organization has that right.

"But Apple isn't that discrimination?"

In my opinion, no. Churches do it to straight couple all the time.

I think it would be awesome to have a wedding at the Mormon temple in Utah.

But I'm not Mormon, so I can't.

In fact any church can deny any one for any reason. If the couple is are of two different religions, if they have sex outside of wedlock, or if the Minister feels like they aren't ready for marriage through counseling, out of good Conesus, they'll deny the couple. When that happens, the couple find another venue and another officiate.

And lastly, I've heard this a lot to:

"Why do they have to call it marriage? Can't they call it a civil union?"

Like y'all know, I'm a Libertarian (obviously). I knew that marriage was sacred and wanted to marry my husband, but I wasn't sure if I just wanted to get married in the church and just skip legalism.

I understand why the legalism is there.

I get that.

So, you want gay couple to be in "civil unions"?

Great! That means your union has to be civil too!

Really, think about it. Everyone who is a consenting adult at least the age of 18 are recognized as civil unions by the state.

That means straight couples, gay couples, polygamists, and polyamorous.

It's only recognized as a marriage in the eyes of the people in the union and the religion they are affiliated with. If you don't see their relationship as a marriage, you don't have to call it that and the state no longer gets to decide who is married and who is not.

Why all of the School shootings?

Well, I came home today and saw that yet another school shooting happened.

This time a High school in Oregon.

I want to make a note:

I am in NO WAY making light heart of this situation. Violent crimes are senseless acts that should never happen. My heart and prayers go out to the students and their families.

Now with that being said, when these things happen, there's one thing that happens when these tragedies happen. I'm not going to go on just emotion, but patterns and facts.

Politicians, celebrities, and a few of my Facebook friends call for more gun control.

I saw a couple of my friends posted about how we needed more gun control after this shooting and the shooting that happened out in California.

Only here's the thing. The places where these shootings happened have some of the strictest gun laws in the country.

California is recorded of having the strictest gun control laws in the entire county.

All of the schools that these senseless acts happen are in Gun Fee zones.

The shooter of the Oregon school was 14 years old. It's illegal for anyone in any state under the age of 18 to own or obtain a fire arm.

The Sandy Hook shooter stabbed his mother to death then grabbed the key that went to her locked gun locker which she had jumped through background checks and all to obtain.

So if gun control is supposed to stop mass shootings, then why doesn't it?

Why do we protect our children with a sign that says "Gun free zone"?

Now, I admit, that I support the idea that if a teacher is trained and licensed to carry a gun, then they should be allowed to. Not everyone is for this. I get that. But why not at least have one armed security guard on duty at all times?

When I was a student in Technical College, we had an on duty officer stand front of the school at all times.

And I want to be clear. My college was not a mass campus. It was in the store front of an old food Lion. Probably 12 class rooms IF that. Never had a shooting or even a thievery when they were there.

So, is gun control counterproductive?

Well, According to a Harvard study...Yes!
The link to that study is here:

http://theacru.org/acru/harvard_study_gun_control_is_counterproductive/

So, why do we have so many school shootings if it's not because we don't have too many guns?

Well, my personal opinion is many things. But the core of all these are the shooters and their psyches.

WHY do so many young men (Yes, because the majority of these shootings, and ALL violent crime offenders are male. Less than 1% of violent crime offenders are female) feel the need to shoot up everyone in their schools?

I would be lying if I didn't point the finger at our school system in this country. When I was in Middle school, had I not removed myself from the situation and found a way out of my deep, spiraling depression through my faith, I probably could have become one of these kids.

I would go to my teachers and school counselors, tell them about how so many of my fellow students were making my life a living hell, and all they would tell me was to ignore them.

They would even ask me "Did they touch you?"
I would reply "No".
Then they would say "Well, there's nothing really we can do about it."

What was happening to these kids up until the shooting?

2. I would also say, to want to kill someone, not figuratively, not in your head, but to actually want to physically take someone's life, there is a mental issue there.

And trust me, I have seen what our society and our medical community does to people with mental health. When they have an episode, we stabilize them then it's just out back on the streets.

A close friend of mine has schizophrenia. He put HIMSELF on the national list to make sure no one EVER sells him a fire arm.
So do I agree we need to make sure someone with mental illness does not get a gun? Yes, but again, as my of my fellow pro second amenders state, NOT EVERYONE FOLLOWS THE LAW!!

I think a lot of issues are put into play with these situations.

Do I think we should get rid of every gun law? No. I don't mind taking a background check, despite my fellow Libertarians might have major issues.

What I mind is people trying to find a scape goat instead of looking at the real issues.

Guns are not the problem. People are. Now what are we going to do about that problem?

Are we actually going to look after each other? Make sure the people who need mental health get it?

Or to we unarm many law abiding citizens just to be "safer".

Trust me; taking my guns away isn't going to help. The black market has plenty if you have the cash.

I want to also note:  I don't trust a Government that wants to make it harder for law abiding citizens to purchase a gun but GLADLY give them to the drug cartels and other international assemblies.
